Leo is a Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) researcher focused on how brands are discovered, cited, and evaluated across the world's most influential AI search platforms. His work bridges the gap between Western AI search (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini) and the rapidly evolving Chinese AI ecosystem (Doubao, DeepSeek, Kimi, Qwen, ERNIE Bot, and more).

Why GEO Audit Exists

In 2025, Leo noticed a glaring blind spot in the AI search industry: while brands poured resources into optimizing for Google, the emerging AI search landscape — where answers are generated, not linked — was almost entirely unmeasured. No tool existed to tell a brand whether ChatGPT was citing them accurately, whether DeepSeek was mentioning their product, or whether Doubao was recommending them to Chinese consumers.

So Leo built one.

trygeoaudit.com started as a personal research project — running manual probes across AI engines, documenting citation patterns, and publishing the raw findings. What began as a spreadsheet evolved into the GEO Audit tool: a 30-second scan that checks brand visibility across 8+ AI engines and surfaces what each engine says, where it cites you, and what context it uses.

This dual-market focus is what sets GEO Audit apart. While most GEO tools cover only Western engines, we recognize that Chinese AI platforms serve over 300 million monthly active users who use AI for shopping, travel, and purchasing decisions. A brand invisible in Doubao or DeepSeek is leaving billions of impressions on the table.

What We've Discovered

Our research has uncovered critical insights that challenge how the industry thinks about AI search visibility:

Citation ≠ Visibility. Chinese AI engines rarely provide explicit citations, but they do mention brands by name in generated responses. GEO Audit tracks both — citations in Western engines and brand mentions in Chinese engines — because the metric that matters is whether the AI talks about you.

The GEO Industry Has Blind Spots. When Leo tested three companies rated as "Top 3 Doubao GEO Optimization" providers, their brand citation rates across Doubao, Kimi, and DeepSeek were 0%. The so-called "reviews" that ranked them were paid placements, not independent analysis.

Chinese vs. Western Engines Follow Different Rules. Western engines favor structured data, authoritative backlinks, and clear citations. Chinese engines prioritize platform ecosystem integration, social media presence (Xiaohongshu, WeChat), and supply-chain relationship data. Optimizing for one doesn't guarantee visibility in the other.

Our Philosophy

We believe in practical, transparent, no-fluff GEO. Our audit results don't sugarcoat — they tell you exactly where you stand, which engines see you, which don't, and what to do next. We don't sell "guaranteed rankings" because AI search doesn't work that way. We sell clarity.

Every tool we build starts with a real question from a real brand. If we can't answer it honestly, we don't ship it.
